Curriculum

Objectives for Children

Playground and Classroom Rules

The three most important values we try to model at Educare Preschool were taken from a program called “BEST Practices,” a program based out of University of Oregon, that stands for Building Effective Schools Together which is currently being implemented in many elementary schools in California. We have found that these three simple, clear and direct rules are all-encompassing and applicable to virtually all situations and are easily remembered by children.

★ Be Safe

★ Be Responsible

★ Be Respectful

Meals

We will provide all meals and snacks.

● Breakfast is served between 7:45am and 830am. If your child arrives after 9am, they will not be served breakfast.

● Lunch is served between 11:00-12pm.

● Snack is served when most children are awake.

● Please inform EduCare regarding allergies and preferences. As we participate in the CACFP(a federally funded meal reimbursement program) we are required to serve healthy, balanced meals with specific components. We are able to accommodate allergies with physician documentation. We will provide formula, low fat milk, and whole milk, depending on a child's age, and we encourage breastfeeding for as long as a parent and child desire.

Naps

As a regulated family childcare home, we are required to provide children with their personal rights, which include giving them a daily, consistent time to rest and an environment that is conducive to napping. Children thrive when they know what to expect and their routine is predictable. We begin relaxing our bodies during lunch, with quiet conversations and peaceful music or white noise. As we diaper and potty, we continue the music, turn on white noise, and close the curtains. We assist all children as needed by holding them, patting their backs, and requiring them to rest on their mat, bed or crib. Rest is important to a child's wellbeing and is a vital part of our day as educators, as this is the time period where we use the restroom, eat our lunch, do state paperwork and curriculum planning, collaborate with each other, and take a needed ‘lunch’ break to recharge ourselves for the afternoon. We know that research concludes that sleep begets sleep; as such, it is not best practice to wake sleeping children. We do turn the lights on, music off, and open the curtains at 330pm. At this time, we begin snack and the rest of our routine, but often, some children do remain asleep until their bodies are ready to awaken.
