EduCare began in January 2017, as a legally unlicensed childcare home that provided care for only one family at a time. In December 2017, now licensed as a family childcare home with the ability to care for six children ages, we enrolled our first full-time toddler and gradually continued to expand our enrollment primarily through word of mouth referrals. Though our first change of location in November of 2018 was essentially due to a divorce and the homeowners' unacceptance of a family childcare being operated in their home, it was a blessing in disguise to move into a newer home at the end of a cul-de-sac. EduCare capitalized on the opportunity to have a fresh start and created a large classrooms out of the entirety of the homes living room and dining room areas.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit our area in March of 2020, Melissa felt an overwhelming call to action to step up and meet the rapidly changing needs of currently enrolled families who needed childcare for their elementary aged students as schools had suddenly closed, as well as the needs of the multitude of families in the community.
Over the following five years, EduCare Preschool has weathered shifts in location, staff, and enrollment. Our program remains dedicated to providing a high-quality, nurturing, and educational environment for children of all ages!

Melissa Brown, M.A. Education
Melissa began her career in Early Education in 2000, beginning as an assistant teacher at Allan Hancock Children’s Center. After obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development from the University of LaVerne, she completed a student teaching internship at The Children’s House Montessori School. She then spent a handful of years employed at Community Action Commission Early Head Start as a Lead Teacher and Interim Site Supervisor.
Melissa felt passionate to create a program of her own - and also wanted to get married and have another child - so she spent the next phase of her journey as a private in-home educator while she raised a teenager and pursued a Master's Degree in Educational and Organizational Leadership. After graduating in 2015, and having a child in 2016, she opened EduCare on January 4th, 2017. Starting the program with a friend's two preschool-age children part-time, and her own infant who was barely six months old, she set out to build the early learning program she’s always wanted.
